Trading

I'd prefer to trade rather than sell but will gladly entertain cash offers, as well as offer cash for any items from my want list.

I'm also looking forward to exchanging information about Signal with other collectors. My knowledge is still very limited, and learning about the subject is as important for me as obtaining the actual magazines. I would appreciate if discussion is based on historical interest. The subject in question is, after all, a made-to-deceive product of German war propaganda.

Please note the trading list is presently very outdated. I will have to fully revise all of it in the near future (hopefully will have happened before Christmas). Inquiries still very welcome but some of the items listed here may be no longer available.

Want List

WANTED - Edition 'D':

In preparation for an in-depth analysis of Signal I'm currently in the process of listing the contents of every issue from edition D. For this project I still need the following magazines:

1944: 14, 17, 18, 19
1945: 4, 5

Condition is of secondary importance, I mainly need complete copies of these numbers. I will of course offer more for issues that include the extra color plates.

WANTED - Any issues from the following editions:

I do not have any copies from these editions yet, which means I'm not picky about the issue in question and will gladly consider magazines in lesser shape. Editions in bold are especially sought after:

AR, D/Sp, G, Est (code unconfirmed), IR, Let (code unconfirmed), Ost, P, Rus, S, Sl, .

WANTED - Single issues:

Mainly cover variations that I'm looking for, but also single issues of particular significance:

  • 1/40: D, E, F, I.
  • 1/41: F a) with price in red circle, b) with text in red circle.
  • 4/41: D "Nr. 4a" (censored issue distributed in Switzerland).
  • 18/41: F.
  • 23+24/42: D with large text box on cover (partly obscures the Signal logo).
  • 12/43: D with T-34 cover.
  • 18/43: B.
  • 21/43: I.
  • 1/44: I.
  • 4/44: I.
  • 5/44: Sp.
  • 6/44: Po or Sp.
  • 6/44: I.
  • 7/44: any edition with the Montmartre announcement on the cover.
  • 6/45: Sch (as well as any other editions if they should exist...).

  • WANTED - Other:

  • Star-marked issues (given away for free at German embassies and consulates).
  • "A"-stamped (or marked) issues (censored, distributed in Switzerland).
  • Issues with extra color plates (unnumbered pages between pp. 10/11 and 30/31).
  • Mini Signals 'distributed' using V1 flying bombs: E 16/44 - 1/45.
  • English Signal magazines (edition E), especially late-war issues.
  • Complete years of Signal (loose magazines or custom-bound volumes).
  • Original Signal binders.
  • Documents, photos, advertisements, correspondence relating to Signal.
  • Secondary literature (facsimiles, studies, papers, books on German propaganda).
  • Sketch books by Hans Liska, as well as literature from the editors and reporters of Signal.

  • I'm always interested in acquiring larger collections or bigger volumes of magazines from a specific edition.

    Available Items

Most of my available issues are in good to very good condition with normal signs of wear. Some are creased or torn, and the middle pages or the cover of a few magazines have come loose. They are all complete except where noted. Please inquire for pictures and a detailed description.

Listed here are only my duplicates. I may consider parting with other items from my personal collection (such as issues that include the extra color pages). Please let me know if you're looking for something special, or send me your want list.

(Detailed descriptions of the available issues will soon be added)

(I also have a number of duplicate near-mint issues with extra color pages, these will have to be listed separately and with pictures if possible. Please inquire for details)

    BOUND VOLUMES - Edition "H":

"H" collection running from issue 1/42 through 24/43 (totalling 47 issues), custom-bound in four single volumes. For some reason 21/43 is a "D" issue. The magazines have been slightly trimmed (cut) during the binding process. This was professionally done and left the text unaffected except for a few instances. Magazines are in G/VG/EXC condition, some have a couple of tears, all are complete. The binders look as if they were produced during the war, or shortly afterwards. They exhibit strong foxing and may warrant to be replaced. The magazines themselves are all intact (i.e. their spines were not trimmed, just stitched), and could be taken out and stored as separate issues if so desired.

    Volume I : issue 1-12/1942
    Volume II : issue 13-23+24/1942
    Volume III: issue 1-12/1943
Volume IV : issue 13-24/1943 (19/43 includes the Mussolini/Gran Sasso supplement)
